Linwood Learning Adventures and Community Daycare is a not-for-profit community owned and operated early learning program. We partner with families, Pocahontas Episcopal Ministries and the community. We encourage educational and developmental growth for children using a warm, loving, creative approach. We enrich the lives of children with multicultural and diverse socio-economic backgrounds by focusing on the individual needs of each child. We strive for excellence using innovative early childhood learning experiences with a focus on health and the outdoors.
Parents in the area formed a planning committee in 2011 and a formal board in 2012 to address the need for childcare and youth programming/ activities in the area. The Linwood Community Daycare opened its doors in August of 2013, and expanded in the spring to include Linwood Learning Adventures for school age children.
What we do
At Linwood we focus on unique learning experiences, focusing on health with an emphasis on the great outdoors. Our year round, weekly programs include circle time, small group discussions, arts and crafts, free choice activities, and of course story time. Each week brings new and exciting activities and lessons.

Our Community
Our rural community
of Linwood is at the foot of the largest ski resort in the Mid-Atlantic area.
This part of Appalachia is scenic, serene and very rural. Pocahontas County is
the 3rd largest county in WV per acre.
With 8,700 people we are ranked the 8th smallest county in the state
based on population. Linwood is located in the northern most part of
this sparsely populated county. Living in this rural area is beautiful
but difficult; obstacles include access to fresh fruits and vegetables,
playgrounds, schools, childcare, transportation, and other common services and
amenities. As our young community members begin families they are forced
to leave the area due to the lack of resources for their children in Linwood.
In the past five
years our community has taken action to overcome the obstacles of rural living.
With the opening of the Linwood Library at Snowshoe in 2010, expansion of
Pocahontas County Farmers market to include a Friday market at Linwood Library
in 2012, the opening of Linwood Community Daycare in 2013, and formation of the
Pocahontas Trails Committee in 2013, expansion of the daycare to include
Linwood Learning Adventures for school age children, it’s clear to see Linwood
is sustainable & ALIVE! “Linwood
ALIVE!” is a community planning group formed to identify obstacles and create
solutions by partnering resources and people who will work together to enhance
the lives of local families and businesses in the Linwood Community.
